Explaining The Myth of Angels

The Characters in scripture have to be seen as to the context of scripture prophecy itself, which is a window to events to come or messages of warnings as a guide to a perfected future. This is why there are precise warnings (Like in DEUT.)of portraying these biblical characters in any way shape or form, because perceptions would be distorted by those portraits and delusional mythical characters would be formed rather then insight to real people in real life roles.
The warning of these things that would throw off your understanding of the events and of your understanding of the Bible was in;
Deuteronomy 4:16 "Lest ye corrupt (yourselves), and make you a graven image, the similitude of any figure, the likeness of male or female (of anything spiritual)."
Deuteronomy 4:17
"The likeness of any beast that (is) on earth, the likeness of any winged fowl that flieth in the air"

Mistaken Wings:
MAL. 4:2
Gentiles will translate this as wings but THE WRITER WAS TALKING ABOUT PRAYER SHAWL, so the comments of the messengers having wings is merely a misstranslation or confusion over slang or symbology of the prayer shawls the Hosts (Kohanim) have. Just as they used to say the group of hosts looked like clouds when they flocked together so to would they use wings describing their prayer shawls.
Other assumptions stem from mere dreams of Cherubs being described in appearances of wings but that is but a dream not literal and neither are these dreams supposed to be confused with any individual mention of the various Malakhs anywhere else in scripture for it is forbidden in Deut as previously discussed.
Further causes of winged beings stem from adaption of mythology like that from Egypt. It was derived from the fact that Egyptian gods possessed wings, and in order to make the religion more palatable for future converts of other religions, it was adapted. Egyptians always made spirits & pseudo gods from animal characters, winged entities were one of those portraits.
Conclusion: the more we don't listen to the warnings like in Deut then the more we stray from the reality in the text and the less we truly understand the Bible in it's true form and intended description of things to come in a reality sense not delusional mythical caricatures.
